This, er, "news" piece interviews a consultant of the dead show "Ghost Whisperer" and has her investigate....let me pause here as the word investigate is robbed of most of it's meaning...if an old anchor at the station is haunting it. But I think they bury the lede:

"She also mentioned that she is releasing a new book called “The Ghost Whisperer’s Cookbook.” Winkowski said it's full of more than 100 recipes she collected from ghosts over the last 35 years."

DC's September

So DC comics has wrapped up their big New 52 event. I did not get to read all of them, but got a few and am happy to be hunting down a few more I didn't get on my pull list in time, but got good notes elsewhere (Red Lanterns!).

They've been extensively reviewed, but I'd pick (in no particular order) Detective Comics #1, Wonder Woman #1, and Aquaman #1, Batgirl #1, and Batwoman #1 as making want to really see what the writer is up to on these familiar characters. Batgirl is comic I've never read before, and despite having to handle a somewhat complex backstory right in the first issue, Gail Simone does a nice job making us feel like you are right beside Barbara Gordon, who gets fleshed out (not in the same way Catwoman and Voodoo were) into an imperfect person. The art in Batwoman is jaw dropping. And also, here are some doodles indicating why I am not likely to be in the comics industry as long as people are able to see below the break:

It's the 19xx's, and I now have a driver's license. Taking a trip through Maine, my parents suggest I go "visit" Stephen King, since I read all his books. Jed tells me "he'd probably be happy to meet his fans". So in retrospect, my dad was either doing a perfect troll on me, or was hoping to test American anti-Stalking laws by having me thrown in jail.

I'm not saying everyone was in on it, but I happened to stop for gas on the way through Bangor. I wanted to find a hotel to stay at, but didn't see any. So I ambled over (you amble in this part of the country) to an older gent at the gas station, I said "Do you know where..."

He quickly said "Stephen King's house? It's up the road, turn right, it's on the left".

"No, I want to find a hote-"

"It's the big gothic looking place"

I think perhaps everyone was out to troll me.

A Conspiracy Unmasked

Finally got to my local comic book store to get the pulls I had - lucky I was getting Batgirl, Action Comics, and some others as they appear to be sold out. Need to go again tomorrow to pick up what non-pulls I can.

Batgirl is one of the stand out series, really looking forward to where Simone and company are taking Barbara. With a relatively heavy amount of backstory to exposition in, not to mention the controversy of removing Oracle from her wheelchair, I think they absolutely smashed through the window to crush doubters in this first issue.

I also like a very different take on Superman in Action #1, going to be interesting to see how they are not simply rebooting and taking the character down the same roads with new scenery, but changing Supes relationship to the world. He's no longer just a generic "reporter" as an afterthought, he's reporting on actual problems that concern him. Really looking forward to this and all the other DCnu titles as well.

Reading back a bit to try and figure out the story behind this very different DC Universe, I think I may have found the foundation stone of the entire relaunch. It was hidden, not long ago, in the Secret Six. It oozes into every corner of the new U, from Swamp Thing's murky waters to the hidden Stormwatch...I truly think it all stems from this:

It was too quick for a photo, but I spotted the unmistakeable Google Street View car headed east on Chagrin in Beachwood, Ohio, just east of Warrensville Center Road. Would be nice if I had a meme worthy dance or something ready for it's passing, but instead I managed a pathetic wave like you give to someone you're not sure you remember.

Update: 11:30 They swing by westbound on Chagrin into Shaker Heights. If I show up, people may be leftwith the the impression I am forever drinking coffee here at Starbucks, and that's just crazy.

Found this old pic of my brother (the original Hipster) and I at the cottage. Went a little CSI on the comics on the bed in the background, only one of which I can see very clearly:

A small amount of Internet tubing to find this means this was taken in July (or maybe June) of 1976. The big guy punching Superman is Solomon Grundy, the cover is more clear here.

That was issue 301, but DC is starting renumbering him at #1 starting this September, so I guess I'll start up again. And yes, I do wish I still had the old issues - and my brother's shades.

Enjoying some sweetned beverage that I call "awake for the rest of the day", I overheard a blogger in Starbucks. I overheard her asking a lady leaving the store if she could photograph her for her fashion blog. The lady politely declined, and the blogger returned to her laptop. I did not take her lack of asking me to be photographed as an insult, but perhaps as a sign she's a fashion blogger who knows what she's doing. Later, she left to go to the restroom, and carried her laptop with her. I am actually disappointed I don't get a nod as a coffee bro of sorts to watch her laptop. Or perhaps I am overthinking everything *sips coffee*
